Gripping Hope During our Home Study Update

Home studies expire.  So do FBI fingerprints.

We are knee deep in updating our home study.  I just went to the doctor today & got a TB test (since I've been out of the country since our last home study.)

Friday James, Lucy, and I will be getting our state fingerprinting done.  Next week I'll take the 3 kids for their doctor visits.  And the next week our social worker will come for her visit.

Even the cat is in on the home study update action.  Bubbles is headed to the vet for his shots this week.

I remember how extremely nervous I was when we did our home study the first time.  I was so crazy nervous that I cleaned behind my washing machine.

I'm not near as nervous this time.  Or as excited.

Our wait time keeps increasing.  It's hard to get excited knowing I probably will have to update our home study again before we get a referral (or matched) with a little boy.

Pray for us during this time of waiting.  Here's what the Lord encouraged me with today.  I'm going to grip hope.

Tonight is the In His Hands Orphans Outreach meeting.  I am leading the meeting in a study from a Created to Connect lesson plan by Karyn Purvis.

The lesson had a verse from Lamentations.  Normally I don't read and study the book of Lamentations because, well the name says it all.  Expressing grief isn't a favorite topic for most people.  But this verse is encouraging.

I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness,

the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed.

I remember it all—oh, how well I remember—

the feeling of hitting the bottom.

But there’s one other thing I remember,

and remembering, I KEEP A GRIP ON HOPE:

God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out,

his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.

They’re created new every morning.

How great your faithfulness!

I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over).

He’s all I’ve got left.

It’s a good thing to quietly hope,

quietly hope for help from God.
— — Lamentations 3:19-24, 26 (The Message, emphasis added)

How good is that.  As I wait for my child, I'm going to keep a grip on hope.  Thank you Lord for the encouragement from Your Word!

USPS, You're Off The Hook & Another Sign

I got an email this morning from our case worker.  She received my big 'o stack of papers in the mail.  We will be scheduling our home study visit next week!  It's exciting to see progress in the adoption process.

Last night James finished another sign for my mother-in-law.  It's pretty cute.

Here's the info on sign ordering again.  Just 20 sign orders would pay for our home study.

Made to order wall signs with Bible verses made on reclaimed barn wood.

The wood is naturally distressed over time.  Every sign will be an original creation.

Email me with your color, verse (up to 22 words), and size (either 42 x 21  inches or 30 x 15 inches.)

Have a great weekend!

Goodbye Home Study Paperwork & Watch This Video

Today is a special day.  I took my home study paperwork to the post office and mailed it away.  It was more than a half inch thick with about 30 different documents.  If the United States Postal Service loses that envelope, I will never forgive them.  I might even join one of those crazy separatist cults or write my own manifesto.  USPS, for the love, please don't lose my letter.  I felt so weird sticking it into the mail slot.  I've been so protective of these pages.  I've even kept them in plastic sheet protectors.  Now I'm just going to stick them in a slot and trust the government?  Ok.  Well, at least I have a tracking number.

I also want to share with you an amazingly uplifting story I found on my adoption Yahoo group.  This young couple is adopting from Uganda.  They have a referral for a little boy, and they are trying to raise their last bit of money to travel in the next few months.  Their names are Anna and David, and Anna has a uniquely wonderful testimony.

Watch this 8 minute video.  I know you will be BLESSED!

Then watch this 4 minute video and give $2.  Come on!  It's $2.  I know they need to raise at least $10,000 more.

Praise the Lord for people like Anna and David.  And praise the Lord that our home study paperwork is done.  Now we will be scheduling our home study interviews and still working on our dossier.
